Sunshine! But still, lots of clouds lingering in the sky. Everyone was hoping to catch a glimpse of the iconic Mt. Fuji today, but sadly, the weather had other plans, and the mountain remained shrouded in too much cloud cover for any clear views. It's a bit disappointing, especially considering the anticipation that builds up when planning to see such a famous landmark. However, I’m relieved that I didn’t opt for one of the expensive tours, which cost over $200. Those tours often promise breathtaking views and experiences, but it’s hard to justify the expense when the weather can be so unpredictable.

Shimizu, on the other hand, is a fantastic port in its own right. The town boasts a unique charm and offers a variety of attractions that are all conveniently within walking distance. I decided to embark on a little adventure and trek over to a small mall area that caught my eye. This mall features a massive Ferris wheel that towers above the landscape, along with several kiddie rides that add a playful atmosphere to the area. As I wandered through the mall, I took the opportunity to buy some souvenirs to remember my trip by, and yes, I indulged in a delicious bowl of Ramen, which is a must-try when in Japan.

Inside this mall, I discovered a fascinating sushi museum that piqued my interest. The museum showcased the rich history and cultural significance of sushi in Japan, making it a great stop for anyone interested in culinary traditions. One of the highlights was the "Mt. Sushi" display, which was both creative and visually appealing (see pictures). While I consider myself quite adventurous when it comes to trying new and different foods, I must admit that I hesitated before sampling some of the more peculiar offerings available. For instance, I encountered shark embryo (ick!), which, while intriguing, was something I decided to politely decline. Some culinary explorations might be better left untried!

As the day progressed, it became increasingly clear that rain was on the horizon, and sure enough, it started to pour. Recognizing that it was time to head back to the ship to avoid getting soaked, I made my way through the streets of Shimizu, reflecting on the day’s experiences. Tonight, I’m looking forward to dinner at the Teppanyaki Grill aboard the ship. Dining there is always a lively affair; the chefs put on a show while cooking, and they even sing while preparing the meal. One of their catchphrases is "Rice, Rice, Baby," which adds a fun twist to the dining experience. Tomorrow promises to be exciting as we set sail for Tokyo, where a whole new adventure awaits!
