There was a shuttle bus into town. There was a huge line and probably a 90-minute wait. I decided to get my exercise and chose to walk. I had downloaded maps in advance, so I felt confident that I could find my way. It was about a 30-minute walk and the scenery along the way was nice.
Downtown Jeju had a marketplace that was really cool. The place covered all five senses. So many bright colors and the smell of the fish, tangerines, and fresh vegetables combined with the sound of many different languages. You could taste the food being made in the shops and touch the thousands of products on display.
There were so many food shops the choices became difficult. I'm not afraid to try new things, but there were so many things I didn't have a clue what they all were. If you could put it on a stick, they could grill it. They even had roasted corn on the cob. With ice cream topping. I got a hotdog on a stick. Basically, a Korean corndog. As a diabetic, imagine my shock when they rolled it in sugar before handing it to me. Oh well, I ate it. It was actually pretty good. I would have preferred mustard :-) I also tried squid on a stick and mystery meat on a stick. Both were good. Then I found a beer stall and drank a local craft lager. My day was done and I headed back to the ship.
Dinner that night was at a specialty restaurant, Onda. Italian themed. The food was excellent and ended with tiramisu. I only had a few bites, but yummy.
Tomorrow is Hakata, first stop in Japan.
